Family Therapy in Allen, TX

Who Is Family Therapy For?
Family therapy is designed for families who love one another but find themselves struggling to communicate or navigate life’s changing seasons. Perhaps conversations at home frequently turn into arguments, family members feel misunderstood, or there is growing tension between parents and their children. You may feel like you’re having the same conversations over and over without making progress, leaving everyone frustrated and unsure how to move forward.
Many families seek therapy when navigating challenges with a teenager who has become more withdrawn or difficult to communicate with. Others are adjusting to the transition into young adulthood, where parents and young adults are redefining their roles, expectations, boundaries, and levels of independence. These transitions can create confusion, even in families with strong relationships and good intentions. Family therapy provides a space where each person’s voice can be heard while helping the family create new patterns that foster trust and lasting connection.
How We Help
Family therapy is grounded in a systems-based approach, which means we look beyond any one individual and focus on the relationships, patterns, and interactions that influence the family as a whole. Rather than identifying a single person as “the problem,” we work to understand how family members affect and respond to one another, and how these patterns may contribute to ongoing miscommunication or disconnection.
Our family therapist holds a PhD in Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy with advanced training in working with family systems and relationship dynamics. This specialized background provides a deep understanding of how family relationships influence individual well-being and how meaningful change can occur within the family unit. We are committed to providing thoughtful, evidence-informed care that recognizes the unique strengths and challenges of every family.
Specific Issues We Address
Parent-Teen Conflict
The teenage years often bring changes in communication and the drive for independence. We help families navigate these challenges by reducing power struggles and creating healthier ways to communicate while maintaining connection.
Transition to Young Adulthood
As children become young adults, families often face new questions about independence, responsibility, boundaries, and support. Therapy helps parents and young adults navigate this transition while preserving a positive relationship.
Family Communication Difficulties
Many families find themselves caught in cycles of misunderstanding, defensiveness, or avoidance. We help family members develop more effective communication skills so everyone feels better equipped to work through challenges together.
Frequent Family Conflict
Ongoing arguments and tension can leave family members feeling exhausted and disconnected. Family therapy helps uncover the underlying patterns contributing to conflict and supports families in developing healthier ways to address disagreements.
Life Transitions and Family Adjustment
Major life changes such as divorce, remarriage, relocation, loss, or changes in family structure can create stress throughout the family system. Therapy provides support as families adapt to new circumstances and establish routines and relationships that foster stability and connection.
Strengthening Family Relationships
Sometimes families seek therapy not because of a specific crisis, but because they want to feel closer and more connected. We help families build stronger relationships by increasing understanding, improving emotional connection, and creating a more supportive family environment.
Insurance & Fees
We are an out-of-network practice and do not directly accept insurance. However, we are happy to provide superbills that you may submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Session rates vary by clinician, and current fees can be found on each provider’s bio page. We offer a limited number of sliding scale spots based on availability, and we accept HSA and FSA cards. If you have questions about fees or finding a therapist who fits your budget, we encourage you to reach out.
What to Expect
The first session is focused on getting to know your family and understanding what has brought you to therapy. We’ll discuss the concerns that are impacting your family, explore each person’s perspective, and identify goals for the work ahead. This session also provides an opportunity for family members to ask questions, learn about the therapy process, and begin creating a shared understanding of what everyone hopes to achieve. Family therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes and are most often scheduled every other week. Throughout the process, we’ll regularly revisit your goals and discuss what changes family members are noticing both in and outside of sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does everyone in the family have to attend every session?
Not always. While many sessions include the entire family, there may be times when certain family members attend together or individually, depending on the goals of therapy and what will be most helpful for the family system.
What if my teenager doesn’t want to come to therapy?
This is one of the most common concerns parents have. It’s normal for teens to feel hesitant at first. Our goal is not to force participation, but to create a space where they feel respected and safe enough to engage in the process over time.
How long does family therapy usually take?
The length of therapy depends on the family’s goals, the challenges being addressed, and the level of participation from family members. Some families attend for a short period to work through a specific concern, while others benefit from longer-term support.
Will the therapist take sides?
Talking about difficult topics can sometimes feel uncomfortable at first. However, therapy provides a structured and supportive environment to work through these challenges in a productive way that promotes long-term growth and understanding.
What if one family member seems to be the source of the problem?
Family therapy focuses on the family system rather than placing blame on one individual. Even when one person is struggling more visibly, therapy explores how family members interact and how the family can work together to create positive change.
