Our Expert Therapists

Narrative Therapy
We help clients explore and re-author the stories they hold about themselves and their experiences, shifting limiting narratives into ones that feel more empowering and aligned with who they want to be.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns and develop more balanced, supportive ways of responding to life's challenges.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I need a therapist or if I can handle this on my own?
You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. If anxiety, difficult relationships, eating concerns, low mood, or a major life transition are taking up more mental space than you'd like, or if you've been pushing through for a long time and things still don't feel better, therapy can help. At New Narratives Counseling in Allen, TX, we offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can explore whether it feels like the right fit before committing to anything.
How do I know what type of therapy or therapist is right for me?
The right therapist depends on what you're navigating and what kind of support feels most helpful to you. At New Narratives Counseling, our founder Kaitlyn Milstead, PhD, LMFT personally helps every new client identify the clinician whose specialty, approach, and style aligns with their goals, whether that's EMDR for trauma, DBT for emotional regulation, eating disorder treatment, family therapy, or support for anxiety and depression. You don't have to figure that out before reaching out.
What actually happens in the first therapy session — and do I have to be ready to open up right away?
Your first session is a conversation, not an evaluation. We spend time getting to know you, what brought you in, what's been feeling hard, and what you're hoping for. You won't be pushed to share more than feels comfortable. Most clients leave the first session feeling heard and clearer on their next step. At New Narratives Counseling, we move at your pace from day one.
How does therapy work if I don't have insurance or my insurance doesn't cover it?
New Narratives Counseling is a private-pay practice, which means we don't bill insurance directly, but we provide detailed superbills you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We also accept HSA and FSA cards, and a limited number of sliding scale spots are available based on need. Session rates range from $150 to $175 depending on the clinician. Many clients find that the level of specialized, focused care they receive more than justifies the investment.
Is New Narratives Counseling currently accepting new clients, and how do I get started?
Yes! We are currently welcoming new clients. The easiest way to get started is to schedule a free 15-minute consultation through our website or call us at 903-776-4452. Kaitlyn will personally help match you with the right clinician based on your needs and goals. We offer in-person sessions at our Allen, TX office at 550 S. Watters Road, Suite 275, and secure virtual therapy for clients anywhere in Texas, with evening availability to fit your schedule.
